A new executive headquarters for one of the region’s largest employers will not diminish its presence in Western Pennsylvania.

Allegheny Technologies announced its home base will leave Pittsburgh and relocate to Dallas.

At the same time, it adopted ATI as the official company name to match “what most already call us: ATI,” spokesperson Natalie Gillespie said.

“We took several actions to reposition ATI as we continue on our path to becoming an aerospace and defense leader,” she said.

The announcement will have little impact on the 1,500 employees in Western Pennsylvania, Gillespie said.

No one is required to relocate.

The change was filed Wednesday, June 22 with the Security and Exchange Commission.

United Steelworkers Union spokesperson Tony Montana had no comment since, he said, “this doesn’t appear to impact any USW members.”

Western Pennsylvania, particularly the Alle-Kiski Valley, will continue as the hub for ATI’s Specialty Rolled Products business.

“We’ve invested $1.4 billion in the last decade to make this a specialty materials powerhouse,” Gillespie said.

In 2015, $1.2 billion was put into the Hot Rolling and Processing Facility in Brackenridge, “one of the world’s most powerful roughing mills,” she said.

More recently, $30 million was invested in Latrobe for an Electric Arc Furnace and $85 million in Vandergrift to upgrade the cold anneal line, add titanium capabilities to the hot anneal line and add a slitter to give the operation the capability to produce larger specialty coils.

Gillespie said the move to Dallas formalizes an independent, central location that will help strengthen the company’s strategic focus.

Other upcoming changes for ATI in the Pittsburgh region include a move in August from PPG Place to a new Enterprise Resource Center, which Gillespie called a progressive workplace in the Vision on 15th Street in the Strip District.

The website, email address and social media presence have been updated to ATImaterials.
