Acrisure donates $7.5M to to UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation for heart treatments
Financial technology company Acrisure on Thursday donated $7.5 million to the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation to help advance clinical care, research and the patient experience for children and families at the facility’s Heart Institute.
The donation is said to be the largest corporate gift received by the foundation.
“This is a significant milestone for the foundation, the hospital, and most importantly, for the children and families receiving care within the Heart Institute,” said Rachel Petrucelli, president of UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Acrisure’s decision to help our hospital advance care and cures for heart patients was made with the utmost care, and with a sincere ambition to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
The donation will support the Heart Institute at UPMC Children’s, which is one of the top-ranked cardiology and heart surgery programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Acrisure, a Michigan-based company, became widely known in Pittsburgh when it bought the naming rights to the venue formerly known as Heinz Field in 2022.
The Heart Institute offers comprehensive care to over 17,000 patients with congenital conditions throughout their lives, from prenatal through adulthood.
“This contribution reflects our commitment to be impactful in Pittsburgh,” said Greg Williams, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Acrisure. “Supporting the hospital’s mission of advancing pediatric medicine through groundbreaking research, innovative treatments and compassionate care aligns perfectly with our values. We hope we can be an accelerant to this important work for many years to come.”
Williams said arriving at the $7.5-million figure came about after discussing with the hospital their needs.
“We wanted to do something meaningful, so it was really about their plans and what they were trying to get done.
“We view this as the first of many,” Williams said. “There will be more as time goes on.”
