State police arrested 90 people for driving under the influence on roads in the region during the four-day New Year’s holiday.

Troopers also cited 939 motorists for speeding in the area including Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties. The enforcement period stretched from Saturday to New Year’s Day, state police said.

Locally, state troopers investigated 105 crashes, 15 of which involved alcohol. Those crashes resulted in 27 people injured and two deaths.

Across the state, troopers made 406 DUI arrests and investigated 642 crashes, a sharp decrease from 1,169 crashes investigated during a similar time period last year.

Troopers statewide issued 6,370 citations for speeding.
