Two state troopers based in Indiana County were placed on administrative duties while authorities investigate how they and a state prison inmate got hurt Monday in an unmarked patrol car, according to state police.

The troopers and the 20-year-old male prisoner were treated for minor injuries at Indiana Regional Medical Center and released Monday, Trooper Cliff Greenfield said on Wednesday. The prisoner was returned to SCI Pine Grove.

Officials have not released any details about the incident or said how the three were hurt while at the entrance to SCI Pine Grove in White Township just before 12:30 p.m. The patrol vehicle was damaged in the incident that happened after the prisoner attended a hearing, police said.

Police have not identified the troopers or the prisoner. Placing troopers on administrative duties during an investigation is normal state police policy, Greenfield said.

Numerous law enforcement agencies helped at the scene and state police continue to investigate.
