Two Laurel Highlands School District employees tested positive for covid-19, according to a letter posted on the district website by Superintendent Jesse Wallace.
Neither employee has been inside a school district building in the last couple of weeks, he said. Both employees are assigned to Hutchinson Elementary School.
The employees were experiencing flu-like symptoms — one is under home quarantine and the other is hospitalized, Wallace said. Their families were directed to self-quarantine for 14 days by the state Department of Health.
“While we expect a full recovery, we will continue to monitor these employees and all of our employees prior to any continuation of face-to-face education,” Wallace said in the letter.
School districts across Pennsylvania were ordered to be closed March 13 by Gov. Tom Wolf in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. That closure was extended indefinitely on Monday.
Some districts have started distance learning for students.
