100 arrested for suspected DUI over Easter weekend in Southwestern Pa.
State trooper arrested 100 drivers in the region on suspicion of drunken driving during the Easter holiday weekend, according to state police.
Troopers in three local troops investigated 106 crashes, including a Friday weather-related collision in Indiana County that killed two people. Thirty people were injured in those crashes, according to state police.
Alcohol was believed to be involved in 16 crashes, and troopers issued 1,288 citations for speeding. The enforcement period spanned from Friday to Sunday, police said. The three local troops cover 13 counties, including Westmoreland, Allegheny, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Armstrong.
Statewide, troopers arrested 496 people under suspicion of DUI, a 10 percent increase from the 2018 holiday weekend, police said. Troopers investigated 540 crashes that injured 121 people. Alcohol was a factor in 38 of those crashes.
Troopers statewide issued 5,847 citations for speeding.
