Police are investigating an exchange of gunfire early Monday involving an occupied residence in the Allegheny Center section of Pittsburgh’s North Side.

No one was injured, initial reports indicate.

The incident happened about 4:40 a.m., according to Pittsburgh police and Allegheny County 911 dispatchers.

According to the initial investigation, someone fired a gun at an occupied home in the 200 block of East Ohio Street, Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz said.

That area is near residential apartment towers and Allegheny Commons East Park, and just a few blocks south of Pittsburgh King K-8 school and Allegheny General Hospital.

The officers who responded to the report of the shooting confirmed that the occupied building had been struck by bullets.

“The resident returned fire,” Cruz said.

No further details were immediately available.

Police have not released any information about possible suspects or any pending charges or arrests.

Officials asked anyone with information related to the incident can reach Pittsburgh police’s Zone 1 station at 412-323-7201. Callers can remain anonymous.
