A Polish Hill man fired four shots at another man who he said would not stop honking his horn and shouting outside his Herron Avenue home, police said.

Brandon Jones, 28, is charged with assault for the Wednesday night incident.

Pittsburgh police responded to a ShotSpotter alert near Herron Avenue about 9:30 p.m., which was followed by a 911 call from a man saying he’d just been shot at, according to the criminal complaint.

Jones said he’d heard someone honking the horn of a truck over and over again and shouting, according to the complaint. He said he confronted the man in the truck and alleged he reached toward what Jones thought was a gun, and so he fired his own gun four times.

The man in the car told a similar story, saying he’d been honking his horn to get the attention of someone inside one of the nearby homes, according to the complaint. He said Jones came out of a different home and they began arguing, at which point he said Jones began shooting.

The man in the car was uninjured, police said.

A witness who was inside the home where the driver was trying to get someone’s attention told police she, too, shouted at the driver, according to the complaint. She said she heard someone honking and went outside, at which point the man began asking for someone named Angela because he “wanted his money,” police said.

The witness said she told the driver to call Angela instead of shouting, and then she went back inside, according to the complaint. She said she did not see the shooting, but she heard the argument and subsequent shots, according to the complaint.

Investigators recovered Jones’s firearm, which police said was legally registered to him, and found four shell casings on the ground. Jones was arrested at the scene.

Jones is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment. He remained in the Allegheny County Jail on Thursday, unable to post $10,000 bail. Court recorded did not list an attorney as of Thursday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 1.
