Pittsburgh police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene after shooting a man in the city’s Hill District early Monday.

Officers from the Zone 2 station in the Hill District and emergency medical technicians responded to a report of a man shot in the 400 block of Heldman Street around 2:30 a.m., authorities said.

Officers found evidence of a shooting and a man on the first floor of the building suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man was conscious and alert but in critical condition when medics took him to a local hospital, investigators said.

Police did not identify the man.
