Halloween events scheduled

Verona Chamber of Commerce’s annual Halloween Parade begins at 11 a.m. Oct. 29 at Railroad Park.

The same day, a fall festival organized by the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont, rain or shine. A parade will begin at 11 a.m., and children’s treat bags will be distributed by stores and businesses afterward.

There will be music, crafts, train rides, food, pumpkin painting, costume contest and more. For more information, visit www.oakmont-pa.com.

On Oct. 27, the Verona Farmers Market will feature a “trunk or treat” for children. The market is held from 2 to 7 p.m. at 736 E. Railroad Ave.

Trick-or-treating on Oct. 31 is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in Plum, Oakmont and Verona boroughs.

Plum Area Ladies Society meets

Plum Area Ladies Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Plum Community Center, 499 Center New Texas Road.

Mary Bowlin, director of the Hope Center Women’s Shelter in Tarentum, will speak about the mission and operation of the center.

The service project will be to donate new or gently-used items to the center. Needed items are clothes for women, mostly in their 20s and 30s, including pajamas, new underwear, leggings, sweatpants and hoodies.

Also needed are clothes for children, mainly for the age group 5-10, such as slippers, socks, pajamas and warm clothes. Additional wish list items are diapers and pull-ups sizes 4 to 6, combs, hair products for all types of hair, deodorant, body wash, hand soap, baby wipes, baby shampoo and lotion. Gift cards for fuel, groceries and general use, in $10-plus increments are always welcome.

For their Ladies Day Out, PALS members will be making candles at the Oakmont Candle Works on Nov. 12, starting at 10 a.m. Further information and signup will be offered at the meeting.

PALS is a service and social club open to women from Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville and surrounding areas. Newcomers are welcome at monthly meetings, held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month, September through April. For more information, call Mary Lou at 724 327-8265.

Medication disposal in Plum

Safe disposal of unneeded medication is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 in Council Chambers at the Plum Borough Building, 4575 New Texas Road.

A uniformed Plum police officer will be at the location to oversee the collection and to answer any questions. Needles and syringes will not be accepted.
