Service dog program at AARP meeting

Plum AARP will meet at noon Nov. 14 at Unity Community Church.

The program will be William Jeffcoat of Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans, accompanied by a veteran and a service dog, explaining the mission of his organization. Members can donate to the fund for Christmas gifts for veterans at the hospital in Aspinwall.

Newcomers are welcome at AARP meetings. For more information, call 724 327-8265.

Food collected through Nov. 15

A Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the Riverview Community Action Corp. food bank and Rosedale food pantry continues through Nov. 15.

Donation boxes are at Fox’s Pizza Den, 314 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

A wrap-up party hosted by Howard Hanna sales associate Lori Hummel is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at Fox’s.

Monetary donations will be accepted to purchase Thanksgiving meal gift cards for those impacted by the Rustic Ridge home explosion in Plum.

Christmas show at Oaks Theater

“Sounds of Christmas” featuring the Latshaw Pops Orchestra is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Oaks Theater, 310 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont.

At more than 30 years, the Latshaw Pops Orchestra stages the longest-running Christmas show in the area. The variety show features a 22-piece orchestra conducted by Maestro Bruce Lauffer, talented singers, dancers and a master of ceremonies.

Friday night bingo

The Rosedale Civic Association presents bingo from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday in November at the Oakmont Elks, 106 Washington Ave.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event features 10 regular games, four specials and a jackpot, along with food, a 50-50 raffle and auction baskets. Cost is $10 per card for 15 games.

Veterans Day service

Redeemer Lutheran School will its annual Veterans Day service at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 10 at its new high school campus at 121 Dawn Drive, Penn Hills.

All those who served and continue to serve in the nation’s military are encouraged to attend. After the service, guests are invited to enjoy a light brunch and assist students in preparing gift bags to send to active-duty troops.
