New home for Christmas at Plum Creek

Christmas at Plum Creek is scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 at the new Plum Municipal Complex, 2000 Old Mine Road.

The event will feature Santa’s arrival, live reindeer, holiday music, free hot chocolate, food trucks, a Santa Shoppe, and crafts and games for children.

There will be no parking at the event. Shuttles will run starting at 5 o’clock from Plum Senior High School, St. John Church on Unity Center Road and Amplify Church in Saltsburg Road.

Hockey game benefits Plum charity

A varsity hockey game to benefit a Plum charity is scheduled for Dec. 5 at Pittsburgh Ice Arena, New Kensington, when the Mustangs face the Kiski Area Cavaliers.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the game begins at 8. Entry donation is $5.

Proceeds will go to Thomas Jack Dojonovic’s Project Spread Positivity, which is committed to allocating kindness and dignity to others through various acts of kindness. The nonprofit also is devoted to the education and advocacy of mental health and suicide awareness.

Featured at the event, organized by the Plum Hockey Association, will be basket raffles, 50/50, merchandise sales

The association also held “Pack the Rink” food drive this week benefiting the Plum Food Pantry.

Toy collection at Plum EMS

Plum EMS will be collecting new, unwrapped toys during the borough’s Christmas at Plum Creek celebration from 5:30-9 p.m. Dec. 1 at 2000 Old Mine Road.

The toy collection will go to support Plum School District’s annual Stuff-A-Bus toy drive for Toys for Tots.

Stuff-A-Bus is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the high school, 900 Elicker Road.

‘Adopt’ a senior

Concordia Lutheran Ministries has opened its Adopt-A-Resident Program to the community.

Individuals, businesses or congregations may call the facility of their choice to “adopt” a resident and give him or her Christmas gifts. Gift suggestions include a sweatshirt, sweatpants, door wreath, stamps and stationery, digital clocks with large numbers, hair salon gift certificates, slippers and slipper socks, and throws or blankets.

Participating locations include Concordia at Ridgewood Place, Plum. Contact Christina Tiffany at 412-798-1855. Deadline for gifts is Dec. 9.

Lunch with Santa

Head to Rolling Hills Church in Penn Hills on Dec. 3 for a pizza lunch with Santa.

Two time slots are available, 11 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free, but registration is required by calling 412-798-2147.

Toy drive in progress

Lower Valley Athletic Foundation Christmas Toy Drive runs through the first week of December.

Donation boxes are at Inner Groove Brewing and the Verona Borough Building, both along East Railroad Avenue. Organizers are looking for new, unopened toys for children of all ages.

Toy distribution is expected a week before Christmas. The foundation will reach out to local schools and churches to find families in need.
