A boy was jailed after allegedly attempting to rob a woman at gunpoint in Pittsburgh’s Homewood North neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon surrendered, Pittsburgh police said.
The suspect barricaded himself in a residence after an attempted armed robbery of a woman at 1 p.m. in the 7000 block of Hermitage Street, police said. The woman said she was in her car when the suspect brandished a firearm. He then was seen running into a nearby house after the incident, police said.
Pittsburgh’s SWAT was called to the scene and the juvenile surrendered without incident after repeated attempts to contact him, police said. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
Pittsburgh police did not release the juvenile’s name or age.
A man in the home surrendered to police and was arrested on other outstanding charges not related to the armed robbery, police said. He also was taken to the county jail, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
Several area schools were put into lockdown as a precaution due to the proximity to the scene. They were dismissed without incident.
