Authorities: Pittsburgh man arrested while attempting to flee the country
Authorities say a Pittsburgh man, facing charges in Allegheny County, was arrested while attempting to flee the country Wednesday night.
30-year-old Emeka Ukaegbu is facing charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief after allegedly breaking into a North Side apartment and taking several items. Pittsburgh police charged Ukaegbu in December 2022.
Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced that the sheriff’s office received a tip earlier in the week that Ukaegbu was planning to leave the country from Philadelphia International Airport. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security was notified and agents were able to apprehend the man before he boarded a flight to London, England.
“I want to commend my detectives for swiftly following up the tip that my office received and thank Homeland Security for making sure this defendant was not able to board that plane,” Kraus said.
Ukaegbu is facing a June trial date before Allegheny County Judge Kevin Sasinoski. He is being held in the Delaware County Jail and will be transported back to Allegheny County next week.
In an unrelated incident, Allegheny County Police arrested a man at the Pittsburgh International Airport Wednesday afternoon after the man allegedly made a bomb threat when he was told by airline staff members that he had missed his flight.
