Zoning change clears way for GetGo in Homewood

A zoning change approved Tuesday by Pittsburgh City Council paves the way for a new GetGo to be built in the city’s Homewood West neighborhood.

The zoning change would allow for a new GetGo gas station and store to be built on a vacant 1.3-acre site near the corner of Frankstown and Fifth Avenues that previously was zoned for residential use.

GetGo will need approval from the Planning Commission for its specific development plans on the site.

GetGo representatives have told the Planning Commission the company hopes to build a 6,400-square-foot GetGo store at the site, which would offer a wider variety of fresh food options. The plan is for the store to include deli meats, fresh meat, dairy items, a bakery section, frozen food and seasonal offerings.

It also is expected to sell hot, made-to-order food and alcohol. There will be free Wi-Fi and capacity to seat about 30 people, according to plans presented to the commission.

The Planning Commission recommended the corresponding zoning change to City Council in June.
