The county health department has ordered the closure of the Young Men’s Republican Club of Allegheny County for violating covid-19 restrictions on serving food and beverages indoors.
The club, located on Suismon Street on the North Side, was cited by health officials for patrons consuming beverages while seated at the bar, tables and chairs spaced less than six feet apart, and no indication of reduced capacity and restriction of seating, according to a county food safety assessment report.
The report, which listed the purpose of the inspection as a “complaint,” said nine customers were inside drinking, eating food and playing pool and a bartender was improperly wearing a mask under the nose.
Following a sharp increase in people testing positive for covid-19, a two-week order went into effect in Allegheny County on July 3 limiting bars and restaurants to only serving food and beverages outdoors.
The Young Men’s Republican Club must remain closed for at least seven days.
Calls to the club for comment were not answered on Wednesday.
