The manager of the Wilkinsburg McDonald’s told investigators he gambled away $241,000 he stole from the restaurant between November 2018 and January 2019, according to a criminal complaint.

Detectives with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office said Charles Hobi, 49, of Pittsburgh’s South Side Flats neighborhood, told them he was trying to make arrangements to repay the cash, according to a criminal complaint.

Hobi told investigators he started taking smaller amounts of cash from McDonald’s in 2017, according to a criminal complaint.

Hobi gambled away more than $400,000 in retirement savings and racked up more than $80,000 in credit card debt to feed his addiction, he told investigators, according to the complaint.

Hobi turned himself in to detectives Tuesday and was released after posting $5,000 bail on a charge of theft.
