Indiana State Police on Monday arrested a West Mifflin man wanted for more than a month on homicide charges in Allegheny County, according to county police.
Daymond Wiggins, 37, was charged May 20 with the shooting death of Thomas Johnson outside a West Mifflin apartment complex two days earlier.
Police responded to Building No. 30 of the Mon View Heights Apartments about 11:16 p.m. May 18, where they found Johnson, 45, dead of gunshot wounds to the head a face, said county police Lt. Venerando Costa.
A witness told investigators he’d been standing outside the complex with Johnson when Wiggins walked up, pulled a gun and opened fire, according to the criminal complaint against Wiggins.
The witness said he pulled his own gun, returned fire and missed and then ran from the scene, police wrote in the complaint. A second witness walking across the complex at the time confirmed the first man’s version of events.
Wiggins was stopped by state police in Laporte County, Ind., on Monday near where U.S. Route 20 meets State Route 39, police said.
Wiggins is awaiting extradition back to Allegheny County. In addition to homicide, he is also charged with firearms violations.
