A suspicious object in a mailbox in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood was found to be a mail scanner, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Police said a resident called 911 around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday after hearing beeping coming from the mailbox at Brighton Road and Benton Avenue.
Officers confirmed the suspicious beeping and called the bomb squad. Roads in the area were closed and residents were told to shelter in place.
A remotely operated robot opened the mailbox. The beeping was found to be coming from a device used to scan mail that a carrier had left in the box. The beeping was indicating it had a low battery.
All roads were reopened by 8:20 a.m.
