Pittsburgh is hoping to create a safer bicycle and pedestrian route in its South Side neighborhood with the installation of speed bumps and way-finding signs on Muriel Street and construction of a bike and pedestrian ramp under the Birmingham Bridge.
The city also plans to install speed bumps on Boundary Street in Oakland to slow traffic and make it safer for bikes and people.
Muriel Street between 13th and 16th streets will be closed for installation of speed bumps between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday and possibly Wednesday, according to the city’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure.
In Oakland, the city is installing speed bumps on Boundary from Joncaire Street to Forbes Avenue along with bicycle directional signs in the neighborhood. DOMI reported that speed data collected in 2018 showed 87% of drivers on Boundary exceed a posted speed limit of 25 mph.
The city intends to close Boundary from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.
