The Shaler Street Bridge over Route 19 in Pittsburgh’s West End will close for two days next week, PennDOT announced Friday.

The bridge will close from 7 a.m. Dec. 16 through 7 p.m. Dec. 17. Crews from Swank Construction Company, LLC will install a new sanitary sewer.

Traffic will be detoured.

The Shaler Street Bridge work is part of a $14.55 million project that also includes concrete reconstruction of Route 19, median barrier replacement, sign structure replacement, ramp improvements and lengthening the Wabash Street deceleration ramp, PennDOT said.

The bridge has been subject to several improvement measures recently. In November, PennDOT replaced the bridge using a self-propelled modular transporter — the first time PennDOT used the new process. Later that same month, the bridge was closed for road maintenance.
