Road closures, delays expected as Pittsburgh Christmas tree heads from Springdale to Downtown
A Pittsburgh public works crew will be hauling the city’s annual Christmas tree from Springdale to Downtown between 8 and 9 a.m. on Saturday, and the city is warning drivers to expect rolling closures and delays along the route, according to the Mayor’s Office.
The route from Garfield Street in Springdale includes Colfax Street, Pittsburgh Street, Freeport Road, Route 910, southbound Route 28, the Veterans Bridge and Sixth Avenue and Grant Street, Downtown.
A crew will install the tree over the weekend on the City-County Building portico. One lane of Grant Street next to the building between Fourth and Forbes avenues will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Mayor Bill Peduto and other officials will be on hand to light the tree at 5 p.m. Nov. 22 during the city’s annual Light Up Night festivities.
