Protesters in Pittsburgh march against reuse of East Liberty police station
More than 100 protesters marched in East Liberty on Monday to oppose the reuse of Pittsburgh’s police station there, according to WPXI-TV.
Pittsburgh police officers are set to move into Zone 5 station at North Euclid Avenue and Broad Street after years of renovations there. But protesters, using the hashtag #StopTheStation, want the plan scrapped. The neighborhood is the same one in which police more than a month ago used tear gas to disperse protesters.
Pittsburgh Public Safety said the protesters stopped at Penn and Centre avenues, near the Target store, and demostrated there. Traffic in the area was rerouted by police.

According to social media posts Monday, protesters are demanding an immediate halt to any plans to reopen the police station without input from the community, the cessation of “criminalization of black and brown communities,” and the “defunding of police and the refunding of black and brown neighborhoods.”
