The Port Authority of Allegheny County expects to reopen the Mt. Washington Transit Tunnel for regular light rail service Monday.
The tunnel has been closed for maintenance since July 26, requiring the authority to detour nearly two dozen routes and causing some delays for light rail commuters.
Contractors replaced approximately 480 feet of light rail track and concrete during the outage.
The Wabash Tunnel, open only to inbound traffic during construction, is also is expected to resume regular inbound and outbound operations Monday morning.
The Mt. Washington tunnel provides Port Authority buses and light rail trains a shortcut between Downtown Pittsburgh and South Hills communities and is used about about 15,000 weekday and 7,000 weekend bus and light rail passengers.
