Allegheny County police say a Braddock man shot his ex girlfriend’s new boyfriend in the leg Tuesday night in North Versailles.

The shooting was reported shortly before 11 p.m. at a residence along the 200 block of Greensburg Pike.

According to police, Melvin McCane Jr., 36, went to the residence and confronted the couple. McCane had a handgun and shot the man in the leg before running away.

Police said McCane should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is advised to call 911 immediately.

The victim, 45, was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition Wednesday, police said.

McCane is 5 feet 7 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black Nike brand shoes with a gold “Swoosh” emblem. He is known to frequent the North Versailles, Braddock and North Braddock areas.

Police have charged McCane with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and weapons violations.

Anyone with information concerning McCane’s whereabouts or the shooting is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
