Police: Highland Park man left cash, 6 pounds of pot in loaner vehicle

Police say a Highland Park man left drugs and cash in a loaner Lexus SUV he used while his own vehicle was receiving service, leading Pittsburgh police to a drug bust that netted hundreds of stamp bags of heroin and 6 pounds of marijuana, authorities said.
Patrick Kim, 34, faces felony charges of drug possession and possession with intent to deliver.
Police on June 3 received a call from employees at Rohrich Lexus on West Liberty Avenue reporting “a substantial amount” of marijuana and money, according to the criminal complaint. Employees found the drugs and cash in boxes in the SUV’s cargo area when they began cleaning it after Kim returned it and picked up his own car.
The dealership reported that Kim paid the more than $800 bill in cash and, soon after, called to ask if he could pick up a garage door opener he’d left the in the loaner, police wrote. Employees had found the opener among the boxes.
Employees told police that Kim arrived at the dealership early the next morning, pounding on the door and demanding to be let inside and get a Home Depot receipt he’d left in the loaner, according to the complaint. When he found the SUV’s cargo area empty, he left without another word, never asking about the garage door opener, according to the complaint.
According to police, a search warrant executed at Kim’s home in conjunction with agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration turned up $285,000 in cash, a pistol, a shotgun, 16 grams of raw heroin, 280 stamp bags of heroin, 40 grams of fentanyl, 6 pounds of marijuana, 3 pounds of THC wax, a money counter and other drug paraphernalia.
Court records show Kim was taken into custody and then released on his own recognizance. He did not have an attorney listed as of Friday afternoon.
