A child told police that bags of heroin they found scattered about his home were “mommy’s medicine” that she makes sometimes, according to a criminal complaint.
Pittsburgh police charged the mother, Leslie Brown, 29, of Penn Hills with felony counts, including endangering her son, manufacturing drugs and possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin.
Police responded to a Family Dollar in the city’s Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood around 9 p.m. Thursday after Brown reported her son missing from the store. Video footage indicated that Brown entered the store without her son.
Officers checked her residence and found the boy inside along with numerous bundles and loose bags of heroin in the living room, according to the complaint. They also found bags of heroin in her car, police said.
Brown allegedly admitted to officers that she made heroin inside the house using over-the-counter products. She said she recently lost her job and began using and selling heroin to cope and pay bills, according to the complaint.
Brown is being held in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh.
Her son was turned over to his grandparents.
