Pittsburgh police said a 10-year-old boy was pulled from under a loaded passenger van at the West Penn Rec Center on Polish Hill just before 8 p.m. Friday.

He was in critical condition in a local hospital, a city public safety spokeswoman said in a news release.

Police, medics and rescue crews were called to the scene at 7:40 p.m. to investigate a call of a boy pinned under a van parked at 450 30th St.

The youth was talking when was rescued and driven to a hospital, according to the spokeswoman.

Police are investigating how the boy wound up under the van.

Twelve children and an adult driver who had been at the recreation center were in the van. The boy was among those who were leaving the facility, police said.

No one else was injured.
