A Penn Hills man wanted for allegedly possessing thousands of bags of heroin in October was taken into custody Saturday during an undercover drug buy, according to Pittsburgh police.

City police said an arrest warrant was issued for Herbert Lee Walker III, 25, in October after Allegheny County Police found nearly 7,000 stamp bags of heroin and a handgun while executing a search warrant at his Penn Hill’s home.

Pittsburgh officers said they were aware Walker was a fugitive when they saw him Feb. 13 in the 5700 block of Baum Boulevard in the East End. Walker allegedly fled in a pickup, hitting two city police cars. Walker was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and escape-related charges, and another arrest warrant was issued.

On Saturday, Pittsburgh narcotics and vice unit detectives got a cellphone number for Walker. Police said an undercover detective contacted Walker, who agreed to meet to sell heroin.

Police said Walker arrived at the deal location with Dwayne Nelson, 22, of McKeesport, and they sold the undercover detective 50 stamp bags of heroin for $340. SWAT officers moved in immediately after the deal and took both men into custody without incident, police said.

Police said Walker had more heroin but they did not specify the amount, and more than $1,200 in cash.

Police charged Walker and Nelson with conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance.
