Pittsburgh on Tuesday announced that community gardens and city Adopt-A-Lot sites are open for cultivation, but officials urged the public to observe coronavirus guidelines while working the soil.

More information about Adopt-A-Lot sites can be found here. More information about community gardens can be found here.

The city released the following guidelines:

  • Do not go to the garden if you or someone in your home is sick, if you are a member of an at-risk population or if you are a senior.
  • Do not hold group volunteer days, no matter how small, and visit the garden alone or with members of your immediate household.
  • Limit the garden to 1 to 3 people at a time and do as much work alone as possible.
  • Maintain social distancing by staying at least an arm-length away from others.
  • Wear a mask or cover mouth and nose with a cloth.
  • Be aware of high-touch surfaces and disinfect such things as tools and spigots. Avoid using community tools.
  • Remove all personal items and trash brought to the garden.
  • Thoroughly wash all produce harvested from the garden.
  • Avoid touching face and wash hands regularly.
  • Post signage with these guidelines and rules in public.
