A Pittsburgh policeman fatally shot a dog that was attacking him Sunday while the officer was trying to help an unconscious man in Sheraden, according to police.
First responders were called to Ashlyn Street about 12:25 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive man who may have been having a seizure, according to a police spokeswoman. The officer was trying to help the man when a loose Rottweiler bit the back of the officer’s thigh, knocking him to the ground, police said.
The dog lunged at him again and the officer shot and killed the animal.
Investigators later learned the dog belonged to the unresponsive man, police said.
Both the officer and the unresponsive man were hospitalized for treatment. The man was in stable condition, police said.
