The U.S. Justice Department has approved a $676,895 grant to help Pittsburgh offset some Public Safety Department costs during the coronavirus pandemic.
The grant would help pay for personal protective equipment, overtime for paramedics and disinfecting public safety buildings and vehicles, according to the city.
Pittsburgh City Council on Tuesday introduced a resolution that would authorize officials to execute agreements to receive the funding.
Mayor Bill Peduto earlier this year said the city faced an estimated $127 million deficit in 2020 because of revenue losses caused by the pandemic. He’s repeatedly sought federal assistance to offset the losses.
