Peoples Gas will donate $100,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to provide community support during the coronavirus pandemic, the utility announced Thursday.

Hundreds of people lined up in vehicles on Mondayto receive free boxes of dried goods and meats from the Duquesne-based food bank. The food bank had enough on hand for 1,700 families.

Peoples’ President Joe Gregorini said the utility wanted to provide assistance to “those who need it most.”

“At Peoples we are proud to come together in support of those organizations that provide assistance in the communities we serve,” he said in a statement.

The company noted that it has assistance programs available to help customers with problems paying utility bills. For more information about the programs, click here.
