The pink supermoon rises above the Pittsburgh skyline on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and public safety officials will appear on social media channels three times weekly to read bedtime stories for children.

The officials will read stories from books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which are available for free.

Peduto will start reading at 7 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays from the City-County Building in Downtown Pittsburgh. Public safety personnel will start reading at the same time on Wednesdays.

The events will be featured on the Mayor’s Office and Pittsburgh Public Safety Department’s Facebook pages and on the Pittsburgh City Channel’s YouTube page.

Pittsburgh’s Imagination Library branch, which opened last year, provides free books by mail each month to children age 5 and younger. Reading Ready Pittsburgh earlier this year opened a branch for Steel Valley residents.

Pittsburgh residents can sign up for the library through an online portal. Steel Valley parents can register here.
