A police pursuit in East Liberty ended in a crash between a police cruiser and the suspect vehicle on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

A police pursuit of a stolen SUV ended in a crash Wednesday morning in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood, authorities said.

Pittsburgh police officers on Penn Avenue spotted the stolen Jeep — which had reportedly been used in a number of business robberies in Turtle Creek, West Mifflin and Braddock – about 10:45 a.m., according to Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz.

Cruz said that as officers approached the Jeep in their cruiser, the driver sped off. Police, with lights and sirens activated, chased the vehicle.

The chase ended in a crash between the police cruiser and the Jeep about a third of a mile away near the intersection of Penn and Negley avenues, Cruz said.

No one was injured in the crash. A man and woman in the Jeep were taken into custody. Their names were not immediately available.
