New Allegheny County covid-19 cases top 100 after double-digit stretch
After a three-day stretch of new cases below 100, Allegheny County reported 132 new covid-19 cases Tuesday, according to the health department.
Of the new cases, 70 were between ages 19 and 49, 20 of those were age 19-24 and 50 were age 25-49.
New coronavirus cases were found from 1,778 test results. The positive tests come from tests administered from July 14 to Aug. 3. One test result was conducted July 2 out of state and the result was recently transferred to the county.
All new cases were confirmed and bring the Allegheny County covid-19 case total to 8,442. The county estimates that 5,289 cases have recovered from the coronavirus.
The death total increased by one to 243, with the new death being a person in their 90s with a date of death of July 31. That number differs from what the Pennsylvania Department of Health is reporting, which lists county deaths at 237. The discrepancy has been credited to different reporting methods between the county and the state.
The hospitalization total grew by six Tuesday, continuing a trend in the last three days where new hospitalizations increased by single digits. There are 138 people currently hospitalized for covid-19 in Allegheny County, with 33 of them on ventilators, according to the state’s covid-19 dashboard.
Hospitalizations past and present stand at 692.
There has been 100 or more cases reported in 10 of the past 14 days. In that span, the highest case number reported was 244 on July 31.
