Democratic presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is scheduled to campaign in Pittsburgh on Thursday, according to a statement from the campaign Monday.
Bloomberg opened a brick-and-mortar campaign office on Broad Street in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood over the weekend.
“Mike is running for president to unite our country when it is more divided than ever and to defeat Donald Trump,” Dan Kanninen, states director for Mike Bloomberg 2020, said in a statement. “Nowhere is Mike’s commitment to delivering a Democratic victory in November more clear than in the key battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida, and Mike is excited to return to them this week.”
Bloomberg is expected to discuss issues like gun safety, climate change and health care.
Further details about the visit time and location were not provided.
This will be Bloomberg’s third campaign trip to Pennsylvania, the statement said.
He is also scheduled to stop in Michigan on Thursday and will travel to Florida for several campaign stops Friday.
Bloomberg is one of five candidates — along with Joe Biden, Tulsi Gabbard, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren — still in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
National polls show Sanders leading the pack, followed by Biden and Bloomberg, according to data compiled by Real Clear Politics.
A coalition of 12 county leaders from across Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Westmoreland County Commissioner Gina Cerilli, announced Monday that they would endorse Biden.
In a statement, Western Pennsylvania leaders said that Biden would be the best candidate to support the region’s jobs and economy.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who ended her campaign Monday, also announced that she would endorse Biden in a move that could galvanize moderate Democrats’ support.
Fourteen states will hold primaries to select a Democratic presidential candidate Tuesday.
The Pennsylvania primary will be held April 28.
