The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is asking more than 16,000 customers in the McKeesport area to conserve water because of a problem at the McKeesport water treatment plant.

The municipal authority on Sunday added Port Vue to a precautionary boil water advisory that McKeesport City and Versailles Borough were placed on Saturday night. White Oak Borough remains on a mandatory conserve order Sunday.

Michael Kukura, the authority’s resident manager, said Saturday night customers in McKeesport, Port Vue, White Oak and a portion of North Versailles should use water only if necessary.

“We’re having an issue with our intake pump, so our treatment plant is down,” he said. “Only use water if absolutely necessary.”

He could not provide an estimate for when repairs might be completed.
