The Tuesday night shooting in Pittsburgh’s Hill District that left two people dead and another injured happened at a home being rented out as an Airbnb, according to the home-rental company.
“We are horrified by the loss of life, and our thoughts are with the victims of this senseless tragedy,” said Ben Breit, an Airbnb spokesman. “The reported behavior violates everything our global community stands for.”
The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. at a home on McNeil Place, according to police. A ShotSpotter notification detected multiple gunshots, and police and paramedics arrived to find a man and woman with gunshot wounds.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri. The woman had been shot in the upper body, and she was taken to a hospital in critical condition where she, too, was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner’s office has not identified either victim.
A third person suffered a minor graze wound and drove themselves to the hospital, Togneri said.
Police had made no arrests and named neither a suspect nor a motive by mid-afternoon Wednesday.
Breid said Airbnb has removed the guest associated with the reservation while the investigation continues, and the company will “stand ready to support Pittsburgh (police).”
He said the house listing has also been suspended.
