Volunteers will distribute free baby food Saturday at two public housing complexes in Pittsburgh, according to the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh.
East Liberty-based 412 Food Rescue is donating 2,316 jars of baby food and will assist with the distribution at Northview Heights and Allegheny Dwellings along with HACP staffers and city police officers.
The giveaway is open to anyone who needs baby food regardless of income level, according to HACP spokeswoman Michelle Sandidge.
“There are no restrictions and we are not really going to ask people if they are a resident of public housing,” she said. “If somebody happens to show up and they need baby food, we are not going to say no.”
Volunteers will distribute the food from noon to 2 p.m. at Northview Heights’ Calvin Hall Public Safety Center, 441 Mount Pleasant Road, and the Allegheny Dwellings Community Room, 1701 Belleau Drive (rear).
Sandidge said representatives of the U.S. Census will be at both locations to recruit employees for the upcoming census.
She said HACP has partnered since 2015 with 412 Food Rescue on food giveaways at public housing sites. This is the first time the nonprofit has provided free baby food.
“This is by far one of the biggest distributions that we’ve ever had,” Sandidge said.
