East Liberty man acquitted of homicide and robbery charges in 2017 Pitcairn case
An Allegheny County jury Friday acquitted a 31-year-old East Liberty man of most of the charges he faced for his suspected role in a 2017 Pitcairn robbery-turned-homicide.
“We are obviously pleased with the jury’s verdict,” said defense attorney Randall McKinney.
McKinney represented Jamal Darnell Pamplin in the case that was heard this week by a jury in Judge Edward J. Borkowski’s courtroom.
Pamplin was acquitted of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery and burglary charges. He was convicted of charges of simple assault, hindering apprehension and making false reports.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 4, 2020.
Pamplin was charged in connection with a March 6, 2017, robbery at a Broadway Boulevard apartment that left Anthony Bailey, 27, of Penn Hills, dead after he was shot several times by another man, Brandon Thompson, 25, also of East Liberty.
Thompson pleaded guilty to third degree murder, robbery and other charges on Aug. 2 and was sentenced to 20 to 60 years in prison by Borkowski.
