Senate Democrats are marking the 51st anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assassination with what they are calling a tribute to King’s fight for poor and working people.

On Thursday, the senators say they will kick off a Call to Action on the Crisis of Poverty and Economic Insecurity with events in Pittsburgh and cities across the state.

The 30-day campaign is designed to address 30 issues that Democrats say they are working on this legislative session, including a minimum wage increase and better access to affordable childcare.

State Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills, will lead the Pittsburgh-area event at 11 a.m. Thursday at the MLK Mural at South Avenue and Hay Street in Wilkinsburg.
