Most people know the story of the USS Indianapolis from the movie “Jaws.”
To them, it’s a story about sharks.
But to best-selling author Lynn Vincent, the sinking of the USS Indianapolis is more a story of faith and leadership.
On March 10, she will tell that story in Pittsburgh as part of the Grove City College “Foundations of American Leadership” speaker series.
Vincent, of San Diego, will speak at 12 p.m. at the Rivers Club, 301 Grant St., on “USS Indianapolis: Faith and Leadership in Uttermost Parts of the Sea.”
Vincent is co-author, with Sara Vladic, of the 2018 book “Indianapolis: The True Story of the Worst Sea Disaster in U.S. Naval History and the Fifty-Year Fight to Exonerate an Innocent Man” (Simon & Schuster).
The book tells the story not only of the cruiser’s sinking by a Japanese submarine in July 1945 but also of the decades-long effort to clear the Indianapolis’ court-martialed captain, Charles McVay III.
