Scammers pretending to be with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office are calling residents and asking for money, the office said in a statement Saturday.
The callers, identifying themselves as Lieutenant Conor Mullen, are telling residents that they have an outstanding issue — jury duty, failure to appear as an expert witness or an unpaid summons — and asking them to provide money orders and gift cards in order to deal with a warrant.
Do not provide any money or personal information to the callers, the statement said. The Sheriff’s Office would not ask for this type of payment or information if they were calling about a citation.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the calls. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 412-350-4714.
