The Allegheny County Health Department reported five more deaths and 30 additional cases of the coronavirus Friday, increasing the county’s total deaths to 99 and case count to 1,319.
Of the 99 reported deaths, 89 are listed as confirmed cases of covid-19, while 10 are considered probable.
The youngest person to have died from the virus in Allegheny County was 42 and had underlying conditions, health department officials said.
The 30 additional cases are up from 16 new confirmed or probable cases reported Thursday.
There were 13 confirmed or probable cases reported Sunday, 13 reported Monday, 11 reported Tuesday and 38 reported Wednesday.
Countywide, there have been 1,272 confirmed and 47 probable cases of the coronavirus since the first was reported in the county March 14.
A case is listed as probable when a person displays symptoms of covid-19 and has had close contact with a confirmed positive case, but has not had a test themselves. The county health department is including those probable cases to assess community spread.
More than 16,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus in Allegheny County.
There have been 235 hospitalizations, county officials reported Friday.
That number corrects figures previously released by the county that incorrectly identified emergency room visits as hospitalizations, officials said in a statement.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 97 new deaths statewide Thursday. That brought the statewide total to 2,292. There have now been 45,763 cases of covid-19 since the state saw its first two positive tests on March 6.
Three more inmates at the Allegheny County Jail have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total to 27, according to figures posted to the jail website Thursday.
Of that total, 23 inmates are still being held in the jail.
The total number of jail staff members who have tested positive remains at three.
