Allegheny County health officials on Sunday reported a new highest single-day jump in new coronavirus cases as well as one new hospitalization and no new deaths.

The county reported 96 new cases, six more than the previous high of 90 that were reported on Saturday.

Health officials held a news briefing Sunday afternoon in response to the new numbers, ordering all bars and restaurants in the county to halt on-premises alcohol consumption.

In all, 2,568 cases of covid-19 have been reported in Allegheny County. Of those, 2,425 are confirmed and 143 are probable.

The new cases range in age from three to 84, with 27 being the median age. Health officials said the cases will be assigned to case investigators to gather information from those individuals and then contact tracing will begin.

The county saw a significant increase in new cases last week, with 61 reported Friday, 37 on Thursday and 45 on both Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday saw only 19 new cases reported.

Before Saturday, the previous high was 76, which was reported April 4. The first two cases were reported in the county on March 14.

Officials attributed the surge to reports of residents traveling throughout the country to the areas of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Houston, Nashville, and cities in Florida such as Miami, Tampa and Naples.

Some of those people also reported that they’d gone to bars and restaurants while visiting those areas. Others reported attending church, going to family gatherings and children’s activities.

The total number of hospitalizations increased by one, to 382. The number of deaths remained the same at 186.

Of the total number of deaths, 174 are confirmed to be linked to the coronavirus and 12 are probable. Those who died are between the ages of 23 and 103, with 84 being the median age.

The breakdown of Allegheny County covid-19 cases is as follows:

0-4: 21 (1%)

5-12: 31 (1%)

13-18: 50 (2%)

19-24: 277 (11%)
