One day after it added a record number of new covid-19 cases, Allegheny County reported another huge tally of new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

The county reported 246 new cases, five new deaths and one new hospitalization on Wednesday.

The latest batch of added cases come from tests that span June 30 to July 14. The positivity rate for the new cases is 8.35%, with 2,944 tests administered.

The new cases range from patients 2 months old to 102 years old, with a median age of 34.

Of the 5,610 total covid-19 cases in Allegheny County, 5,417 are confirmed and 193 are probable.

The county on Wednesday added 162 residents to its number of those who have recovered from the virus, bringing the total to 2,790.

The county considers a person “recovered” if 32 days have passed after they were hospitalized for covid-19 and did not die, or 14 days have passed after a person tested positive and they were not hospitalized.

People ages 20-29 make up the largest demographic of cases, with 30% coming from that age group in Allegheny County.

The county is reporting a death total of 204, which differs from state’s new total of 201. In the past, county officials have said the reason for differences in covid-19 tallies is in the state’s reporting databases.

The hospitalization total is now 478.

Wednesday’s numbers come after a record high day of new reports on Tuesday, when 331 new covid-19 cases were added from a heavy backlog of tests conducted from June 8 to July 13. Of those, the Pennsylvania Department of Health said 186 cases were because of a reporting delay. Therefore, the county’s true increase on Tuesday was 145 cases.
