The Turtle Creek Valley Council of Governments and police departments will host an active shooter training seminar for area law enforcement officers Thursday.

Seven police departments have registered officers for the all-day event held at St. Colman Church in Turtle Creek that will be capped with active shooter drills involving dummy weapons and different scenarios.

The training will revolve around law enforcement’s response to active shooter scenarios, according to a news release.

State Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills, will also be there to give brief remarks.

Costa helped secure grant funds police used to purchase the dummy weapons that will be used for training purposes.

Officers from police departments in Churchill, Forest Hills, Penn Hills, Monroeville, Swissvale and Turtle Creek will lead the active shooter training. The officers will give instruction earlier in the day in the church’s former school facility, which closed in 2006. Starting at 2:30 p.m., officers will undergo active shooter drills.

Departments who have officers being trained include Churchill, East McKeesport, Edgewood, Monroeville, Penn Hills, Swissvale and Turtle Creek.
