Allegheny County officials reported 24 additional covid-19 cases and no new deaths Wednesday.
That leaves the total number of deaths countywide at 152, while the total number of confirmed and probable cases rose to 1,952.
The reported death count is still lagging behind state data, which has recorded 165 deaths in the county. County officials have said that the reason for the different death count is the state’s reporting databases. The county has access to only one of the two systems from which the state collects its covid-19 data.
More patients were hospitalized since Tuesday, bringing the total hospitalizations to 345. Of those hospitalizations, 68 patients have needed ventilation, according to the data. Nearly 70% of those hospitalized were aged 60 or older.
The first case was reported in Allegheny County on March 14. Since then, more than 36,000 tests have been administered in Allegheny County, which is slated to move into Gov. Tom Wolf’s green phase of reopening Friday.
