Gibsonia man dies in 2-vehicle crash on Route 8
One man was killed and another man was hurt Tuesday after a two-vehicle crash in Hampton, police said.
The collision happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Route 8 and Mt. Royal Boulevard shortly , Allegheny County Police said.
Raymond Anderson, 77, of Gibsonia, was killed in the crash, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office. Anderson died at 3:06 p.m. Tuesday.
Anderson was driving a blue Chrysler minivan.
The other driver, who wasn’t identified by police, is a 35-year-old man who was driving a gray BMW. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
A witness reported that the BMW sedan was traveling south on Route 8 and appeared to be “driving erratically,” Allegheny County Police Lt. Venerando Costa said.
“The BMW crossed the center line and struck the minivan at a high rate of speed,” Costa said.
The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether charges are warranted, Costa said.
Route 8 was shut down from Wildwood Road to Mt. Royal Boulevard for several hours after the crash.
County police’s homicide unit and collision reconstructionists are investigating.
